HOW TO CARE FOR YOUR HERMES BAG

How do I care for my Hermes bag? As with any relationship a true love must be nurtured and respected. It must be cared for with the total dedication it deserves. A Hermes handbag is no exception. In fact I know women who probably put more effort into this union than any other in their life!

How do I care for my Hermes handbag?

Storage is extremely important for luxury leather goods. Here are some tips to ensure you keep your bag in the way it is accustomed:

TEMPERATURE
Always store your bag at room temperature. Exposure to extreme heat or cold can jeopardise the leather quality. Crocodile is highly susceptible to heat and to extreme cold which can cause fissures and wrinkles in the skin. Keep your bag away from radiators and other forms of heat.

LIGHT
Bags should be kept out of direct sunlight and moonlight. Fading can occur and also drying out of the leather, again causing cracks and tiny fissures.

WATER
Do not get your bag wet. This includes rain! Whilst Epsom leather is the most water resistant it is still recommended to use the raincoat Hermes provides. Be especially vigilant if your bag is croc as exposure can cause serious damage to the skin.

CLEANING
Never use cleaning agents or try to repair your bag yourself. Hermes have a ‘spa service’ and whilst the wait may be longer than at your local leather repair shop at least you are ensured the bag will be cared for by a specifically trained artisan and returned to its former state of glory.

TWILLYS
Twillys are thin scarves Hermes make to wrap around the handles and they help keep the handles clean. These are particularly good for ostrich skin bags as ostrich skin is more porous and handles can discolour more easily than leather.

STORAGE
Store your handbag in the cloth bag provided by Hermes and if possible in the box with the protective tissue pillows so it lies in the correct position. For softer leather it is good to keep the bag stuffed so the shape is maintained well. If storing for an extended period of time take your handbag out of its storage area periodically to air the material.

Hermes Bag Care
Essentially your handbag is made from a natural skin and it needs special care just like anything that is made from natural products and not marred by synthetic manufacturing and chemical agents. Your bag is pure and beautiful and every care should be taken to keep it this way!
